Learn GTO Poker with a Practical Preflop Study Plan
A beginner-friendly path to learn GTO poker: understand the spot, study the range, test your recall, and review the decisions you miss.
Learning GTO poker does not require memorizing every solver output at once. Start with a narrow set of repeatable preflop situations, make your assumptions clear, and build recall through active practice.
Step 1: Learn the language of ranges
Understand positions, open raises, calls, 3-bets, 4-bets, and common stack-depth assumptions. You do not need to solve every postflop branch before you can make useful preflop progress.
Step 2: Study one format at a time
Choose one format, such as 6-max cash, and keep the positions and stack depth consistent while you learn. Mixing charts from different games makes recall harder and hides the reason a range changed.
Step 3: Predict before you reveal
Look at the position and action, decide what you would do, then compare your answer with the chart or template. Prediction creates a useful error signal; passive reading rarely shows which hands you would actually misplay.
Step 4: Review weak spots on a schedule
